CONCESSIONAL (HISTORIC) VEHICLE REGISTRATION
The following is a summary of the rules and
conditions for Concessional Registration of Special Interest Vehicles
Special conditions apply when these vehicles have been concessionally registered. Owners must meet these requirements at the application for concessional registration and continue to comply with these conditions when using their vehicles.
What types of vehicles can participate in the scheme?
Classic and historic vehicles at least 30 years old.
Vintage vehicles manufactured between 1 January 1919 and 31 December 1930.
Veteran vehicles manufactured before 1919.
Historic ambulances and fire fighting equipment.
Street rods (hot rods) - vehicles where the bodies and frames were manufactured before 1949, or replicas thereof.
Failing to comply with the conditions of the Special Interest Vehicle Scheme will mean your vehicle will be regarded as unregistered and therefore uninsured.
Club members who have or wish to apply for
concessional registration, please note that if your membership is not renewed
Queensland Transport will be notified that your membership of the JDCQ has
lapsed.
The special conditions are:-
| Club Membership |
Owners are expected to be members of a car club or association. Evidence of current membership must be provided by the club or association when applying. Where a genuine reason is provided for not meeting this condition, it may be waived by Queensland Transport.

| Dating Certificate |
The vehicle
will need to be inspected by a club official of a car club or association to certify the vehicle was manufactured at least 30 years ago. This certificate, which must be on official club documentation, will need to be presented when applying for concessional registration.

| Lighting |
If the vehicle doesn't have permanent lighting, then a removable lighting system must be carried with the vehicle at all times to use when lighting is required. Carbide lights are acceptable if that type of light was originally fitted.

| Restricted vehicle use |
Owners must agree they will confine their vehicles use to:
participating in rallies organised by properly constituted car clubs
participating in processions for which permits have been issued under the Traffic
Regulation
exhibiting the vehicle in displays, fetes or similar functions conducted for religious, charitable or educational purposes
use for ceremonial purposes in weddings involving immediate family members provided this is not done for a fee or reward.
(Immediate family is parents or carers and their dependants, it does not
include extended family such as nephews, nieces.)
preparing for, proceeding to and returning from the above activities
road testing within a 15 km radius from where the vehicle is garaged
travel in order to have the vehicle repaired. No distance restriction applies in these circumstances but it must be reasonable and openly justifiable.

Number Plates.
There
is a variety of plate options available to owners of vehicles registered under
the Special Interest Vehicle Scheme. The plates available are the same
size as the standard issue plate, or the optional square plate. Owners
of vehicles with number plates currently attached can continue to use
them.
Anther option is to
attach one of the many and varied personalised plate products available,
including re-issued black and white plates. Options available at www.ppq.com.au
JDCQ members who
wish to apply for concessional registration should contact the club secretary
who is the only club officer authorised to issue dating certificates.

The club will maintain a register of members with concessional registration and will
advise Queensland Transport if your membership lapses.
